STUDENT LEADERSHIP

MIDDLE AND SENIOR YEARS’ STUDENT COUNCIL

Our Middle and Senior Years’ Student Councils offer their members valuable opportunities to develop their leadership gifts while serving the student body. Council members learn how to work as a team, fulfill specific roles and responsibilities, and support each other in an “ecosystem over silo” mentality. They gain experience planning events and they improve their communication and presentation skills while relaying information to their classmates.

Westpark’s Middle Years’ Student Council meets on Thursdays at lunch under the direction of
Ms. Klassen. Grades 5 & 6 members are nominated and elected by their peers to serve as room representatives, and grades 7 & 8 classes nominate room reps as well as elected officers.

The Senior Years’ Council meets Tuesdays over lunch with Mr. Stoesz , planning high school retreats and various fundraising efforts for the school. The Westpark student body has benefited from council-led fundraising initiatives for the playground gaga ball pit, the water bottle refilling station, and our Royals Mascot, Wesley. The current council’s Legacy Goal is to raise funds for a new student seating area.

The Senior Years’ Council also organizes an Intramural program that takes place on Thursdays at lunch. Any interested grade 9-12 student is assigned a house group which they will play organized sports with for the duration of the school year.

In addition to four room reps, the Senior council executive consists of a president, secretary, treasurer, and both a sports and public relations representative.
